ASUU STRIKE:FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EXTENDS DEADLINE DATE TO 9TH

The supervising minister of Education,Mr Nyesom Wike has announced that the federal government has extended the deadline on an ultimatum given to striking university lecturers asking them to ''return to the classroom'' or be sacked.This happened as a result of the commencement of the burial rites of Professor Festus Iyayi,a former leader of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) who died in the line of duty in an auto crash on November 12th,2013  at Lokoja on his way to attend the association's meeting in kano.The ceremony is slated to be between December 5th to 7th.According to the minister of information's special assistant,''the decision to shift the date of the compulsory resumption of federal universities for academic activities has been taken as a result of the respect we have for the former ASUU President.Wike stated that the federal government took the decision to re-open universities so as not to have any form of showdown with ASUU concerning the ultimatum during the funeral of the former ASUU president.The union's President,Dr Nassir Issa Fagge has also assuered that they will only resume when the government pays the 200 billion naira revitalization fund as requested by the union.
